Streatham IHC are pleased to announce that #14
Ben Paynter
will take on the Captaincy role this season, in place of Michael Farn who has opted to pass on the responsibility following his move to the Player Coach role.
The 'C' has been worn by Adam Carr, Joe Johnston and Ed Koral over the past decade, with Farn lifting our first silverware in 38 years while in the role, prior to the pandemic hitting the UK in 2020.
On the appointment Player Coach Michael Farn said:
"I'm delighted to be able to name Paynts as Captain for the upcoming season, he’s got a lot of experience and portrays himself the right way on and off the ice. He’s always been vocal in the room whether it being giving advice or just being the entertainment for the lads.
"He’s well liked and respected, as well as willing to do what ever it takes for his team mates. I don’t think he will need to do anything different to what he’s ever done as I think he is a natural leader and will transition into the role without an issue"
Our Alternate Captains will be experienced forward Ryan Watt and defenseman Jordan Gregory, two standout players in recent campaigns. They replace previous incumbents Rupe Quiney and Adam Wood who left the club at the end of the last campaign.
Farn added:
"Watty and Jordan Gregory will wear the A’s and be just as important as leaders amongst our group. They deserve to wear the letters on their shirt by their dedication and commitment to the team which rubs off on to the rest of the team.
"We've got a lot of leaders in the squad and wearing a letter is a huge honour. Leadership doesn't just stop with the C's and A's and I know we have a good group who will step up"
On his appointment as team Captain, 26 year old Paynter said:
"When Farny asked me to be captain I was over the moon. It's an honour to be the captain of a club with such rich history. With names like Joe Johnston, Carrsy and of course Farny being named captain in recent years, the list speaks for its self.
"I have always tried to be a leader on the ice and in the room therefore it shouldn’t be much of an adjustment for me. We have a great group of guys in the squad who all know what it takes to win, we all can’t wait to get going and are eager to be lifting more silverware come the end of the season."
The RedHawks face off in just over a week's time with Challenge games against Romford scheduled for the 4th and 5th September. More details here.
