Statement on NIHL Hockey in Streatham
Dave Carr - SIHC Media • August 2, 2019
Due to an introduction of a Streatham development team in National Ice Hockey League South 2.
The club would like to clarify a few points to avoid confusion and address questions that have been asked since the new team decided to brand as the Hawks after initially launching as the Bruins. In summary there will be two mens senior hockey teams competing in the National Ice Hockey Leagues this year out of Streatham Arena, however they will be run independently from each other.
Streatham IHC (the RedHawks) will continue to compete in NIHL South 1 as we have done for a number of years.
The Streatham Hawks are a new team operated by the Streatham Youth Ice Hockey Club aimed at giving junior players in our u18 team a taste of senior hockey and additional ice time. The Hawks will be operated by the junior club and will compete in NIHL South 2. This arrangement does not mean that the RedHawks will not be icing Streatham junior players, just that the funding and organisation of both teams are not connected.
We wish the Hawks all the best in their season in NIHL 2 and hope any of our supporters who can't make it along to our away games, head down to the rink and watch the development team at the Streatham Arena. Their fixtures will be released shortly.
