Streatham beat Invicta in the cup

Streatham made it three wins in a row as they beat rivals Invicta Dynamos 7-4 in the Cup in South London.

Adam Carr’s men were fresh from convincing wins over Slough and Oxford, as they welcomed Anthony Leone’s new look Invicta side, including former Streatham players Ryan Giles and Harrison Lillis to SW16.

It took just a few minutes for the RedHawks to get their fans on their feet as Carr combined with Antonov before finishing past John Dibble to open the scoring. It was 2-0 shortly afterwards as Antonov tipped a point shot by Michael Farn into the net.

Then came a sweet moment for teenager Conner Smith as he scored his first senior Streatham goal after coming up through the junior system. Rhys McCormick teed him up perfectly on the right wing and Smith roofed the puck calmly for 3-0.

Invicta needed a spark in the second period and it came from Leone. The player coach finishing smartly from a Juraj Huska pass. Unfortunately for the visitors, momentum was lost almost immediately as Streatham broke free again and Carr tipped a Brandon Miles pass into the corner of the net to maintain the three goal cushion.

Miles turned from provider to scorer five minutes later as he latched on to a Ziggy Beesley pass in the zone, wheeled across the top of the circle then picked out the bottom corner with a quick snapshot.

It appeared to have ended the game as a contest, but suddenly things boiled over. A hit on Rupe Quiney by the boards saw all hell break loose and with fists flying, Quiney earned himself an early shower and Streatham were forced to penalty kill for the rest of the period.
The third period saw the visitors enjoy their best spell as a goal from Huska and then another from Owen Dell put them within sight of a comeback. Thankfully for the home fans James Warman continued his scoring streak with another goal from a Bailey pass and then Carr completed his hat trick to put the RedHawks back in firm control.

The Mo’s did get the final consolation goal to reduce the margin of defeat to three goals as Leone grabbed his second of the night.
