Following the early ending to the English Ice Hockey League season last weekend we have been informed today that we have officially ended the 38 year wait for a league title.
With just one defeat all season and the NIHL South Cup already in the bag, the 2019/20 season Streatham team will go down as double winners and one of the most successful in the clubs long history.
No team in the league scored as many goals, conceded as few or even sat as many penalty minutes.
The last time Streatham won a league title was in the 1981-82 season in the old Inter City League. Since that time the club have been in the top league, played at Wembley, gone bankrupt, had the rink shut, then re-opened, said farewell to an 80 year old rink and opened a new one – with a brief spell playing in Brixton in between.
It’s fair to say… it has been emotional and we’d like to thank Adam Carr and all the players for their superb efforts this season to bring home the double. We have no doubt that had the season not been cut short the team would have added more silverware.
We’d also like to thank the many volunteers, supporters and players and coaching staff over the past years that have helped keep league hockey in Streatham alive and progressing to help us reach this point.
It has been no easy task and we’d also like to take a moment to remember the supporters who would have loved to see this moment but are sadly no longer with us.
We promise that when we get an opportunity to get back on the ice and celebrate with you all, we will. It will be a party worth waiting for and next season we will be ready to go again!
