The end of season winners of Coaches Player of the Year and Player's Player of the Year.
Coaches Player of the Year
This year our coach Adam Carr has chosen forward Ben Paynter as the winner of the first award. Paynter had a career best points tally by some margin and proved to be a match winner on occasions.
"It was a tough decision this year"
admitted Carr.
"All the boys have been fantastic and I had 2 guys who really stood out for me. But over the year Paynts has done everything he has been asked and more, when you sign players you have a level of expectation for them and he exceeded that all year.
"For me he has been the most consistent player across the whole season. He played in all situations, chipped in with big goals, stuck up for his team mates and matured into a leader on the team. As a coach you need players you can trust and with Paynts I knew I could trust him every time he was on the ice."
Player's Player of the Year
The Player's Player award is of course voted on by all of the squad and this year goes to forward Brandon Miles.
Miles showed another side to his game this season adding goals and assists, while playing on the top line protecting top scorers Vanya Antonov and Carr. 18 goals and 19 assists in 27 league games proved his talents and his team mates showed their gratitude with their votes.
"I’m so pleased for Milesy"
said Carr.
"To get the recognition from his team mates for the job he does just goes to show how highly regarded he is in the room.
"He is a team first guy and will be the first to stick up for his team mates, teams play differently against us with him in the line up. Not only that but he has played some great hockey this year and really showed how talented he is.
"Other teams and fans don’t like him but would love him on their team and would be the first name on my team sheet every time."
Congratulations to both players on their wins. We are obviously sad not to have had our awards evening but we are looking forward to having a big party once we are able to.
