There comes a time when life outside of hockey has to dictate what happens next and for me that time is now. So after an amazing seven years with Streatham it is unfortunately time for me to move on.
I was so enamoured by my former teammate David Carr and more recent teammates Adam Carr, Michael Farn and Andrew Cook that I have decided to make the move to ‘God’s country’ and make the North East coast my new home. For those of you who have met my partner Faye you may have realised that she has also had a part to play in the location choice.
It’s not an easy decision to leave this city and this fantastic hockey club that has brought me so much joy over the last 7 years but I feel that at this point it is the right decision.
Streatham has felt like home from day one and I would like to thank everyone who I have crossed paths with for making it feel that way. I need to really thank Graham and Dawn for their constant passion, generosity and selfless commitment to the club, they have made tough decisions over the years but always for the benefit of the club.
This brings me to the next thanks...all of the supporters, you don’t know how much it means to players to have a fan base that support you win or lose, home or away. It’s incredible. Thank you. A perfect example of our amazing supporters are Mel and Jacqui. You may know Mel as one of our great game night photographers but he and Jacqui also went above and beyond to leave much earlier and take me to away games on several occasions. That level of generosity and care really epitomises this club. Thank you.
I’ll start trying to wrap this up now, thank you to Don Young, Terry (Hawk) England aka Skateboard T, Melanie and Tanya Romans for everything you do. Again the commitment and time put into this club by everyone is incredible. My coaches, at Streatham I have had the opportunity to play with and for some legitimate British legends. Thank you Warren Rost, a polarising character who I have so much respect for, Nicky Chinn, Jeremy Cornish, thanks for keeping me at the club through the turbulent times, Carrsy and Farny...thanks for realising that I was part of the furniture and you couldn’t really get rid of me even if you wanted to.
Finally, thank you to all of my teammates over the years. Obviously too many to name but I’ve made life long friends, what an honour to call the mercurial Dave Carr, the pear shaped legend Joe Johnston, the giraffe man Caz Madren-Britton and the Invicta turncoat Ryan Giles some of my best friends.
What a ride it’s been, thank you everyone. I wish Streatham all the best in the future and hopefully I’ll head south again one day in the future to come and watch a game.
Much love x
