SUNDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2024
Streatham Silence The Thunder
Match Report by Chris Beal
Streatham wrapped up another 6 point weekend with a pair of wins over the MK Thunder this past weekend.
First on Saturday night coming away from MK with a 12-2 win, before silencing the Thunder with a 17-0 win on home ice Sunday.
Streatham only needed a minute to open the scoring on Sunday, with Jared Lane netting the opener. Thunder would hold on for 7 minutes, before Harvey Stead would add the Redhawks second. Ryan Watt would add goal 3 at 13 minutes, with Ziggy Beesley netting a 4th a minute later. Before Aidan Doughty would add a 5th goal at 19 minutes. To close out the period Streatham 5-0 MK.
In the second period Beesley would add Streatham’s 6th at 24 minutes. Thunder would again weather the storm of the Streatham offence for 12 minutes. But on 36 minutes Jordan Gregory would add Streatham’s 7th. To close out the second Streatham 7-0 MK.
Ethan Lane would open the scoring in the third as Thunders defence seemed unable to contain Streatham’s offence, and the dam that Kaleb Sheahan had been holding closed burst. As Aidan Doughty would add his second with JJ Pitchley scoring in quick succession at 45 minutes. Before Luke Brittle would add the first of his 2 goals on the night. At 46 minutes.
Beesley would score and complete his hattrick at 46 minutes, with Doughty completing his at 47 minutes on the clock to make it 13-0 Streatham.
Ryan Watt would net his second of the game at 49 minutes, making it 14-0. MK would then get 3 minutes of respite from the offensive deluge, before Brittle would net again at 52 on the clock. 6 minutes would then pass, before coach Ben Paynter would score Streatham 16th at 58 minutes. Before Roman Cathcart would round out the scoring at 59:59 on the clock, ending the game Streatham 17-0 MK .
Post-game coach Paynter was pleased to have the points, but not with how the team secured them.
“We don’t want games like that, it’s no fun for us, no fun the opposition, no fun for those in the stands really. So, it wasn’t the best of games to watch but I’m pleased with how we handled ourselves professionally, performed professionally and handled ourselves well throughout. They’re a team full of young kids, but this Thunder team seemed to be fitter, and they wanted to battle, they came out and worked hard. But they just need a little more experience in their line up to really compete.”
The teams unbeaten start to the season came to an end last Sunday with a 5-2 loss in Chelmsford, George Norcliffe adding another to his tally and collecting man of the match for the RedHawks. The team will hope to get back to winning ways this weekend with a visit to Slough last night, before this evening as we renew rivalries with the Solent Devils.
