Quiney returns

Streatham IHC are delighted to welcome back popular local defenseman Rupe Quiney for another season on the High Road.

The 28 year old blueliner appeared 35 times for the RedHawks last year playing a pivotal role, including on special teams.

Quiney re-joined his home town team last summer, after a spells in Cardiff, Telford, Guildford and Milton Keynes. Known for his strength and puck handling skills, the big defenseman is always ready to step up into the play and carry the puck up when required.

“I am really excited to be returning to Streatham for another season” explained Quiney, whose father Pete also iced for the club for a number of years attaining legendary status.

“While we didn't get some of the results we wanted, playing back at Streatham where it all started for me made last season the most enjoyable in a long while. I think with the league structure changing and the quality Carsy plans to put on the ice, this year will be one to remember.”

Quiney joins a number of returnees announced so far including fellow blueliners Michael Farn and Adam Wood, plus netminder Damien King. Head Coach Adam Carr moved to retain Quiney after an impressive 2018/19 campaign that yielded four goals and ten assists.

“I’m really happy Rupe has agreed to come back this year, he is a big signing for us” explained Carr.

“He is big and strong and hard to beat one on one, not only that but when he carries the puck forward there aren’t many people who can stop him.

“Rupe is a leader on and off the ice and he knows when to speak up in the dressing room. I know Rupe wants to win trophies and he will play a big part in us doing so.”

Quiney will wear the number 29 jersey for the 2019/20 campaign. You can own and loan his home or away jersey for £100. Your name or message will be on the back of the jersey all season and you get to keep it at the end! Demand is always high for these jerseys so please email and you will be put in a draw.

You can view Rupe’s career stats here.

We will be announcing new signings and returnees across the summer as the coach builds his squad. The new season begins in September and we will have ticket news as soon as the fixtures are finalised later in the summer.
