We've got Wood

The RedHawks can confirm that popular utility player Adam Wood will be lining up for another season with the club.

The Somerset born player first arrived in South London in 2014 from Cardiff where he came through the junior ranks before making his senior debut in 2009. A power forward with an eye for goal and a willingness to get his nose dirty quickly made Wood popular with fans and team mates alike.

In the past three seasons the 28 year old has slotted in on defence on a regular basis and added tenacity and extra mobility to the blue line.

“I’ve been at Streatham for long enough now to have seen my fair share of ups and downs and plenty of changes” said Wood on his return.

“I’m really excited for this season as all of us involved so far have the same goal and expect to challenge for everything available.

“I’ve said this for the last five years already but since joining Streatham, I haven’t wanted to play anywhere else. We have a great team of people off the ice who keep everything going and fans who have supported us home and away through some tough years.”

Last season Wood bounced back from serious injury to play a key role in an improved NIHL format. He notched 8 goals and 12 assists in 38 appearances, racking up 136 penalty minutes in the process. In 2017 he also appeared in a Streatham jersey in front of millions while carrying weather presenter Laura Tobin around the ice on Good Morning Britain.

“I’m really pleased Woody agreed to come back. He is a big fans favourite on the high road and he is a favourite in the dressing room too” said RedHawks Head Coach Adam Carr.

“He is a big utility player for us and can play any position that is needed for the team. Not only that but he will stick up for his team mates when is needed which I love about his game.

“I think Woody proved he can play at a higher level the last two years so I am expecting a big year from him.”

Adam Wood will wear the number 22 jersey for the 2019/20 campaign. You can own and loan his home or away jersey for £100. Your name or message will be on the back of the jersey all season and you get to keep it at the end!  Demand is always high for these jerseys so please email streatham1972@yahoo.co.uk and you will be put in a draw.

We will be announcing new signings and returnees across the summer as the coach builds his squad. The new season begins in September and we will have ticket news as soon as the fixtures are finalised later in the summer.
