King between the pipes

Streatham IHC are delighted to welcome back star netminder Damien King between the pipes for another season in South London.

The highly rated stopper joined us last summer from Invicta Dynamos and put in a number of match winning performances over the campaign.

A former league all-star, the 27 year old learnt his trade in Peterborough, and has also had spells in Milton Keynes and New Zealand with the Canterbury Red Devils.

“I’m glad to be coming back” explained King.

“I don’t think we achieved as much as we would have liked last year but with us back at more level playing field we have to be looking at winning the lot.

“Carsy (Coach Adam Carr) is well respected in the locker room and I look forward to seeing him at the reigns, we had great group of guys last year and if we can keep the same core group we will be hard to beat.”

King faced just shy of 1400 shots last season and often stole points for the team when they were outshot, or in showdowns. A starting goalie under Coach Jeremy Cornish last season, King impressed new Coach Adam Carr with his displays for the RedHawks.

“I’m delighted that Damo has agreed to sign back for us this year” explained Carr.

“It was an easy decision for me, he is a quality goalie and I expect him to be the best in the league next year.

“Like myself, he wants to win trophies and he will play a big part in helping us try to do that next year. I’ve played against Damo for a number of years so I know how good he can be, he sets himself high standards, and not only that he is a respected voice in the room.

“I think your goalie is your most important position on the ice and in Damo we have a goalie that we know we can win trophies with.”

Damien King will wear the number 1 jersey for the 2019/20 campaign and own and loan details will follow over the coming weeks. You can view his career stats here.

We will be announcing new signings and returnees across the summer as Adam builds his squad. The new season begins in September and we will have ticket news as soon as the fixtures are finalised later in the summer.
