Back to the Farn

Streatham IHC are delighted to announce all-star defenseman Michael Farn as our first returnee for the 2019/20 season.

Farn will pull on the Streatham jersey in South London for a third season after joining from Milton Keynes Lightning in the summer of 2017.

He was voted league player of the year in 2017/18 and has been named on the NIHL 1 all-star team for two years running. A former GB junior international, the 30 year old learnt his hockey in the North East of England with Billingham before spending a year playing in Florida. A return to England saw him land in Swindon for a season with the Wildcats, before eight largely successful years with Milton Keynes Lightning in the old EPL.

Known for his athleticism and dominating presence at both ends of the ice, Michael takes up the second roster spot for 2019/20 alongside Player Coach Adam Carr.

“I’m delighted to be back with the RedHawks, for me Streatham was the only place I wanted to play” said Farn.

“It was a pleasure to play for Corny during the last two seasons and I wish him all the best. When Carsy told me he was taking over the Head Coach role and asked me if I wanted to return, it was the quickest decision I’ve made in my career. I believe there isn’t a better person to take over at the helm.

“The original NIHL is something new for me and I’m very much looking forward to the challenge. We may not have been challenging for trophies in my time in the High Road so far but I very much expect us to be in the run in for all trophies available next year.”

The RedHawks finished in 6th position last year in NIHL 1 and Farn is the first player announcement for the upcoming campaign which starts in September. After many years spent as team mates, new Streatham Head Coach Adam Carr knows exactly what Farn can offer the team and is delighted to have him on board.

“I’m really pleased Farny agreed to come back for another year. I know a lot of teams wanted to sign him again this year, but he loves playing here and enjoys being part of it” said Carr, who will also be icing as a player next season.

“For me, he has been the best D man in the league the last two years and I’m sure he will be again this year. Not only is he solid defensively but he adds so much offensively.

“I have played with Farny for a long time now and he never takes a shift off. I think we see the game the same way and I know he will buy in to how I want my team to play.

“He is a leader on and off the ice and he will be pivotal to the team as we aim to bring some trophies to the High Road this year.”

Michael Farn will wear the number 55 jersey for the 2019/20 campaign and own and loan details will follow over the coming weeks. You can view his career stats here.

We will be announcing new signings and returnees across the summer as Adam builds his squad. The new season begins in September and we will have ticket news as soon as the fixtures are finalised later in the summer.
