My favourite time of year

Head Coach Jeremy Cornish previews the weekend ahead.

This weekend we are facing off against Basingstoke in the first round of the play-offs and anyone that knows me, knows that this is my favourite time of year.

This is when the speed and physicality of our sport gets cranked up and if you don't win, the season is over.  For us to win this weekend, we need to make sure we are all focused and have a firm understanding of our roles and responsibilities.
Our games against Basingstoke this season have been very tight and I'm expecting the same on Saturday night. They have a very good team and I don't think many people had them pencilled in for a top 3 finish, but they've surprised a lot of people. Their coach Ash Tait is a former teammate of mine and he has them well-drilled and working together. They have a number of veteran players mixed with some good, young guys that contribute each night.

We will have to be at our absolute best this weekend to progress to the next round and I feel we have been playing some excellent hockey lately. It's going to start in goal for us with Damien and our D will need to be physical and  move the puck quick all weekend. The forwards will need to play with an abundance of speed and make sure to be smart all over the ice.
We've had a fantastic week of training and I know the guys are excited about this match up. I'm looking forward to seeing another packed house on Saturday and hope we can get a good result to carry over into Sunday's away fixture.
