In his latest Coach Corner, Head Coach Jeremy Cornish gives his thoughts on the season so far and the challenge ahead,

Well, we’ve had a pretty exciting start to the season and I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how we’ve been playing. We did suffer a tough loss last Saturday to Bracknell on home ice, that’s a game I wish we could have won. They are currently in first place and we had plenty of opportunity to take that game but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

I think it’s fair to say we have one of, if not the best defensive core in the league and Damian King has done a fantastic job stabilising the team in goal. Nate Gregory has also looked sharp in the games he has received some ice time and as a coach it is rewarding knowing we’ve got two guys that can play on any night.

Up front we have been led by import Alex Roberts and our captain Adam Carr. We also have some excellent secondary scoring coming from the likes of Ryan Webb, Andreas Siagris and Scott Bailey.
I really like the commitment our guys are showing and the effort they are putting forth at training each week.

They want to improve and win games and I think we’ve shown that this year we are a much improved team and will be challenging around the top of the table. I also think it’s worth mentioning that I am always looking to improve the team and out of the four losses we have had this year three of them have been decided by one goal.

We need a little more help up front and I’m going to do what it takes to improve the team and get us into a position where we are winning these close games.

Finally, I would like to thank the supporters. Our rink really feels like it’s building momentum each week and the crowds have been excellent. Last Saturday’s crowd was awesome and as a player it’s so exciting playing in front of a big crowd.

The volunteers also need a big thank you at this stage of the season, you guys are a big part of what make Streatham such a wonderful club to play for.
We only have one away fixture this weekend in Basingstoke and I’m sure the drums will be out and our unbelievable away supporters will be cheering right to the final buzzer.

See everyone Saturday,

JC
