Wood back in SW16

Streatham IHC are delighted to announce that Adam Wood will ice again for his fifth season with the team in 2018/19.

The versatile 27 year old first arrived as a feisty forward, but last season played on the blue line using his agility and hard-nosed style of play to good effect. He was made Alternate Captain two years ago, but sadly saw his season cut short last year through injury.

“Adam is a player that has been in Streatham for a number of years and a player that fits in very well with what we are trying to do” said Head Coach Jeremy Cornish.

“He’s got great size and can play forward and defence effectively. He’s also a team-first player that understands how important it is to wear a Streatham jersey. He will once again be an alternate captain and this is a role he respects and is very good at.”

“Adam’s season was cut short this past year and I know he’s been working tremendously hard this summer to make sure he’s 100 percent and ready to make an impact every time he touches the ice.”

Wood learnt his trade in Cardiff where he progressed through the junior system before making his senior debut in 2009. He arrived in South London in 2014 and impressed straight away with fiery displays that yielded goals and also penalty minutes.

“I was really disappointed to miss the second half of the season last year with an injury I picked up in the first game back after Christmas” said Wood on his return.

“Missing crucial league games and the play-offs was tough. It took quite a while to recover but I’m feeling good again now so can’t wait for September. I’ve said this for the last 4 years now but I can’t see myself playing anywhere other than Streatham.”

“What Corny has had to do the last couple of seasons is no simple task but he’s done a great job along with the help of Graham and Dawn. Recruiting such talent to the capital is not easy but it’s a testament to our club that we continue to do so.”

“A huge factor that has kept me at Streatham for so long is the fans. We have amazing home and away support that always have our backs. I can see us pushing further up the table this year and I look forward to training with the new team and getting started.”
