League Player of the Month award for Farn

Streatham IHC are delighted to report that defenseman Michael Farn has been awarded the National Ice Hockey League South 1 Player of the Month for January.

Michael has been an impressive presence on the blue line since joining the club in the summer and the award is well deserved.

“I’m really enjoying hockey at the moment, it’s a great club to play for with a huge team spirit amongst the lads” said the 29 year old.

“I just aim to help the team the best I can every game and I’m honoured to have received this award.”

Michael currently leads the team scoring with 14 goals and 32 assists so far this year in all competitions and leads the league as the highest scoring defenseman.

“Michael has proven he’s an elite talent in this league this year” said Head Coach Jeremy Cornish.

“Not only is he helping to lead our team on the ice, he’s a natural leader that’s fantastic in the locker room.”

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Michael on his award and he will be back in action in South London this Sunday as we take on London Raiders at 6.45pm. The full text from the league awards press release is below:

The panel selected Michael Farn of Streatham IHC as the NIHL1 1 South (Britton) Player of the Month for January.  The 29 year old has been outstanding for the Londoners all season and is the highest scoring blueliner in the league. Farn has been a standout performer in most games he has played and this month has continued that form. One goal and seven assists in January tells only part of the story for a player who plays a key role on both special teams for the RedHawks and is a go to guy for Head Coach Jeremy Cornish in key situations. Michael Farn is the first defenceman to be awarded the Player of the Month honour this season, but with 14 goals and 32 assists in 31 games this season its fair to say he contributes at both ends of the ice.

In NIHL South 2 the award was won by Lukas Smital of the Slough Jets.
