Watt a signing

Streatham IHC are delighted to announce the signing of exciting and experienced forward Ryan Watt for the 2017/18 season.

The talented former GB u20 international joins us from Hull Pirates where he played in the English Premier League last season.

Watt is well known across British hockey having previously iced with in the EIHL with Basingstoke Bison and Braehead Clan, plus in the EPL with Slough Jets, Swindon Wildcats, Bracknell Bees and of course Hull.

Despite hailing from Irvine in Scotland, Watt spent most of his junior hockey days with Basingstoke and also enjoyed a spell in the states with Omaha Energy. Known for his toughness and undoubted skill, Watt can score, create and drop the gloves and is another big signing for the RedHawks as we prepare for life in the improved NIHL South.

‘I’m extremely happy to be signing for Streatham’ said Watt, who also coaches the South West Conference under 17 team.

‘I'm looking forward to the new challenges set in the new structure of the NIHL. I've known Corn Dog for a long time, having played with him a bit back in Basingstoke. When he called and offered me the opportunity to come play under him, I jumped at the chance.’

‘It didn't take long to get the move sorted. Now I just have to wait out the next few months and then it will be time to meet all the fans and my new team mates in SW16.’

Watt is the seventh new face announced by the club so far this summer, and the third from the old EPL. Head Coach Jeremy Cornish is confident that his old team mate will make a big impact on the team.

‘Ryan is a big signing for our club’ said the big Canadian. ‘He is a skilful center man that has a nasty mean streak.’

‘Ryan spent last year up north in Hull and once I heard he wanted to be back down south I didn't hesitate to ring him. I've known him a long time now and I'm very excited to be bringing him to Streatham.’

‘He will become an instant fan favourite and he will not think twice about sticking up for himself or his teammates. It's hard to find a player with Ryan's skill set, experience and toughness and I will be looking for him to play a major leadership role on our club this year.’

Ryan’s own and loan jerseys are available now for £100. Simply email to try and secure his home or away jersey. He will wear it all year and you get to keep it at the end of the season (washed of course).
