Baird joins the RedHawks

Streatham IHC are delighted to welcome young no-nonsense blue liner Brendan Baird to the club for the 2017/18 season.

The 21 year old joins us from Oxford City Stars where he scored 5 goals and notched 12 assists in 21 games at Oxpens road.

Baird learnt his trade at the Hive where he was a Bracknell junior before breaking into the Bracknell Hornets team in 2012. Born in Southampton, Brendan comes from a hockey family with his older brother Joe icing for Basingstoke and is known as a tough, feisty competitor and a solid presence in defence.

‘I’m really looking forward to being part of the RedHawks organisation’ explained Baird, who won a junior title with Bracknell.

‘It's always been tough playing there and I'm looking forward to help make it a fortress this year and of course re-uniting with the Corn Dog.’

This is of course not a reference to the catering facilities at the Streatham Arena who do offer a quirky item on their menu in Chupa Chups lollies, but have yet to sell the American snack famous for its commeal batter.

Baird won the NIHL Play-Offs with Wightlink Raiders under the tutorage of Jeremy Cornish back in 2016 and also appeared in the EPL for Bracknell Bees scoring two goals in 2014.

‘Brendan is a tough no-nonsense defencemen and a player opposing teams hate playing against’ explained Head Coach Jeremy Cornish.

‘He has EPL experience and that should help him understand the type of players he will be competing against. I love the way Brendan plays the game and I'm expecting him to become a fan-favourite this year.’

Brendan’s own and loan jerseys are available now for £100. Simply email to try and secure his home or away jersey. He will wear it all year and you get to keep it at the end of the season (washed of course).
