King shuts out Raiders for 4 point weekend

Streatham made it a four point weekend with an excellent 2-0 win over rivals London Raiders in the Cup in SW16.

Streatham welcomed back Adam Wood and Conor Sheehan for the clash however power forward Chris Wiggins had to take his kit off after warm up due to a broken skate blade.

It was the Raiders who started the strongest in the opening stages but Streatham soaked up the pressure and came back strongly before the end of the period with both goalies Euan King and Michael Gray stealing the show.

Streatham finally broke the deadlock in the second period as Michal Oravec skated round the back of the net and switched the pass across the slot to Joe Johnston who beat the sprawling Gray with a calm finish.

Streatham eased through the gears and the Raiders began to get a little frustrated, which was made worse after the home side cleared a 2 on 1 and then went back down the ice and scored a second through Sean Scarbrough. The American had the crowd on their feet with a wraparound effort after good work from Steven Fisher.

The crowd were roused again minutes later as Wood charged for John Connolly and the pair dropped the gloves after the Scot had tripped Liam Rasmussen.

The third period saw Streatham holding on to their 2-0 lead and the Raiders trying hard to break King’s shutout. Both Marek Nahlik and James Pentecost dangled through to King but ether could beat the Streatham stopper who was in fine form.

The final buzzer sealed the win for Streatham and both goalies were unsurprisingly awarded man of the match.
