All smiles for Giles

Streatham are pleased to announce the sixth returnee to the team for 2016/17 as defenseman Ryan Giles signs up for another campaign in SW16.

A league title winner on numerous occasions with Invicta Dynamos and later Chelmsford Chieftains. Giles is experienced beyond his years despite his youthful appearance.

Ryan joined us from the Chieftains last summer after relocating to South London and ended up playing as an emergency winger at times and on all three lines as a defenseman.

‘Just like Jack Tarczycki, Ryan ended up having to move around the line-up last season and sacrificed himself for the good of the team really’ said Head Coach Nick Chinn.

‘He is a quality defenseman with a good shot and a calm mature head which is what we need. He can also step up physically when he needs to and has good positional sense.’

‘Our defensemen need to be playing defence this year and Ryan will be a key part of the blue line corps.’

With four goals and six assists in thirty league appearances, Giles also hit the headlines last season as he completed the London Marathon almost as soon as the season had ended.

Giles began his hockey career in Gillingham with Invicta, just a few miles from his native Maidstone (The Stone). He shone for the Mo’s before moving up to the EPL with the Romford Raiders in 2009/10. He then returned to Invicta, before heading back to Romford, then back to Invicta before arriving at Streatham after a quadruple winning season at Chelmsford.

‘We under achieved last season, so we have unfinished business to deal with’ said Giles on his signing.

‘The owners and fans deserve some long awaited silverware and that's achievable with the team Chinny is building this season.’

‘Streatham are a competitive team playing in London, in a brand new rink with a fantastic fan base. There's a strong club ethos and a real buzz around the club. It was an easy decision for me. I had no intention of playing anywhere else but Streatham again this season.’

Ryan will continue to wear the number 90 jersey and you can sponsor his home or away jersey for only £100.

You get to keep it at the end of the season, however as they are so popular we are going to put all interested names into a hat and draw out the winner over the next 48 hours.
