Depleted Skins edged out in Cup

A depleted Streatham Redskins side were edged out in a South East Cup tie as London Raiders snatched a 3-2 win at Streatham Arena.

Missing Nicky Chinn, Chris Wiggins, Ryan Giles, Joe Allen and Michael Ranby, the home side did however welcome back Jack Tarczycki and Caz Britton from injury.

The first period saw Streatham in full control but unable to beat Michael Gray in the London goal. London did have a couple of chances down the other end but it was still 0-0 at the buzzer.

The visitors started the second period the brighter as they upped the tempo but it was Streatham that took the lead thanks to an impressive spinorama in the slot by Adam Wood that fooled Gray and nestled in the back of the net.

If that was mark of quality, then London’s equaliser was similar as Michal Oravec ghosted into the slot then pinged the puck into the top corner past the outstretched glove of David Wride.

London had the better of the remainder of the period but in truth the play from both sides was scrappy to say the least.

Streatham skated out in the third looking slightly stronger on the puck but it was the Raiders who took the lead as Marek Nahlik jammed the puck past Wride from close range with five minutes on the clock.

Four minutes later it was Nahlik scoring again as he broke down the right wing, skated behind the net and beat Wride on the wrap around.

The goal stirred the home side and they hit the post through Kinkor, and then pulled it back to a one goal deficit as Dom Hopkins fired in a shot from the point.

Despite more pressure on Gray’s net Streatham just couldn’t break through and the Raiders held on for a 3-2 win.
