Hockey legend signs up at Streatham

Streatham Redskins are delighted to announce the signing of former GB international Nicky Chinn for the 2015/16 season.

Chinn is one of British Hockey’s most celebrated and recognisable talents and has played at the very top level of the sport in this country for many years after initially bursting on to the scene with Cardiff Devils as a teenager.

With five world championships for his country under his belt and a career that saw him play in the Superleague, Elite League, Heineken Premier League and English Premier League, Chinn brings to Streatham a wealth of experience.

“I'm delighted Nicky has decided to sign with Streatham and join the coaching staff” said Head Coach Warren Rost.

“I know he could have negotiated himself considerably better terms elsewhere but we have been having infrequent conversations about this for some time so it's nice to finally be at the right time and place for this to move forward”

“For Nicky part of the reason for coming is to give something back after what has been a pretty spectacular playing career in the higher leagues and I think it rewards all the hard work from so many people over the years who have helped move the club forward to this point.  Without that we wouldn't have been in a position to do this”

Chinn makes a return to the capital where he last played for London Knights in the Superleague season of 2000/01. He joins us after captaining Basingstoke Bison in the EPL for the last two seasons, where he picked up an EPL Play-Off title in 2013/14.

"I am really excited at the challenge ahead in Streatham" said Chinn.

"It is a great opportunity for me to get involved in the coaching side of the game and a chance to give something back to British hockey"

"Streatham are a long established club and progressing every year so I am looking forward to getting started in the capital"

Chinn will of course be wearing the number 27 jersey for Streatham and adds the club to a CV that has also seen him ice for Sheffield Steelers, Guildford Flames and Nottingham Panthers.

“Chinny is an all-round talent who is simply one of the best players of his generation, but all that talent and toughness would be of limited use to us if he couldn't communicate all of experience this to his teammates” continued Rost.

“This is his greatest quality, how well he communicates and motivates those around him, and he is going to be a tremendous asset to the club moving into the future”

“It is important to win trophies in the present but the club has been around since the 1930’s so we need to take a longer term view as well and if you're going to make a signing of this calibre the development and evolution of the club needs to be considered”

“This signing really helps our long term development agenda and it is very reasonable to assume that Nicky will, in time, have established himself as Head Coach. That's a coaching progression everyone can be excited by”

“Nicky Chinn is a Streatham Redskin and that's pretty cool”.
